EARLY YEARS
eople have been playing games on
Pice for hundreds of years. In the early
1800s, the Mi’kmaq people in Nova
Scotia likely played a game similar to
hockey. They played this game on ice
with sticks and wooden blocks. Other
sports also helped develop hockey. One
of these sports was English field hockey.
Today, more than 25,000 Mi’kmaq people live in
Nova Scotia and Maine.
