basin
An area of land where smaller bodies of water drain into a larger
body of water.

biodiversity
The number of different species that live in an area.
climate change
A human-caused global crisis involving long-term changes in
Earth’s temperature and weather patterns.
executive branch
The part of a government that carries out the laws.

finance
Business activity that uses money itself to earn more money, often
involving banks, loans, credit, and investments.

impeached
Brought formal charges against someone serving in office to
determine if that person was guilty of a crime.
Indigenous
Native to a region, or belonging to ancestors who lived in a region
before colonists arrived.
judicial branch
The part of a government that makes decisions about legal cases.
legislative branch
The part of a government that makes laws.

recession
A time when an economy is slower, often involving less spending
and more unemployment.
