People have the right to gather in groups and
express their opinions. This rally, called Idle No
More, was held in 2013 by some Indigenous
Peoples in British Columbia to speak up for
better treatment of Indigenous Peoples and
the environment.

All levels of the government are
responsible for taking care of Canada’s
people. But sometimes the government
fails to keep its promises. When this
happens, every Canadian citizen has
the right to voice his or her opinion. A
democratic country allows free speech.
Canadians can call, write, or use social
media to connect with elected leaders.
They can join with other citizens to
protest. But the most effective way for
Canadians to hold leaders accountable is
to vote.
