RISING
TEMPERATURES,
RISING SEAS
When something gets hot, it gets bigger. Scientists call
this thermal expansion. That is how a hot air balloon
blows up. Heat
makes the air in
the balloon expand.
The water in the
ocean is expanding
because of heat.
Thermal expansion happens in
hot air balloons. The burners are
lit to keep the air temperature
warm so it fills the balloon.
