As the Himalayan glaciers
continue to melt, fast-moving
streams carry the extra
water into the ocean.
The melting ice that is causing sea levels to rise is
on land. Glaciers are found from the Rocky Mountains
in North America to the Himalayan Mountains in Asia.
Rising temperatures are causing 90 percent of mountain
glaciers to melt. As the glaciers melt, the water flows into
mountain streams. The streams then flow into rivers,
which flow into oceans. The additional water makes the
ocean level rise.
