CHAPTER 2

                           THE BATTLE OF BULL RUN

fter the Battle of Fort Sumter, many people

Ain the Union demanded action. They wanted

to make a move against the Confederacy. Lincoln

even called for 75,000 recruits to serve in the

Union army. However, the leader of the army

advised Lincoln to wait. He feared the volunteer

troops were not ready for battle.

That summer, the political pressure on Lincoln

continued to grow. Soon, he had little choice.
