THE BATTLE OF BULL RUN
fter the Battle of Fort Sumter, many people

to make a move against the Confederacy. Lincoln
even called for 75,000 recruits to serve in the
Union army. However, the leader of the army
advised Lincoln to wait. He feared the volunteer
troops were not ready for battle.
That summer, the political pressure on Lincoln
continued to grow. Soon, he had little choice.
