Anaerobic digesters can supply the materials for many
products. The biogas can be used for heat and electricity.
The digestate can be used as fertilizer, animal bedding, or fuel
pellets. Why are all of these products important?

But scientists are working with farmers to solve
the issue. The US Environmental Protection Agency
set up a program. It builds anaerobic digesters on US
farms. An anaerobic digester is a large machine that
acts like a stomach. It uses bacteria to break down
poop to make biogas. The biogas is then burned to
