The cyberbullying he underwent may have contributed to
his suicide.
In 2012, Ravi was convicted of fifteen counts, including
privacy invasion and bias intimidation. Bias intimidation is
charged when a person’s criminal actions are motivated by the
victim’s race, religion, or sexual orientation. However, the New
Jersey Supreme Court eventually ruled the bias intimidation laws
were unconstitutional, and Ravi’s convictions were overturned. In
the end, he pleaded guilty to attempted privacy invasion.
CYBERBULLYING OF THOSE WITH

Students with special needs are often the targets of
