orders and the rest of the players jumped and
spun and rolled on the ground. Riley let out
a chuckle. She knew the game well, coming
from a football family. Her dad coached youth
ball and both of her older brothers were star
players. She loved the sport, but parts of it
definitely looked silly.
“Riley! Up here!” She spotted her best
friend Aisha shouting down to her from the sea
of faces in the bleachers.
Riley bounded up the steps to their usual
spot. Riley and Aisha had been going to
Renegades games since before they were even in
high school. “First game of the season!” she said.
The two of them hugged. They had been best
friends since they were put on the same soccer
and basketball teams in elementary school.
“Senior year!” Aisha said. “I can’t believe it.”
“Me either!” Riley looked out at the
field. “Our last chance to get to the state
championship.” The girls remained standing as
the pep band played the Star Spangled Banner.
When the anthem was over, the crowd cheered
and everyone sat down. Riley looked at the
