Riley laughed, thinking back to how much
time the two of them had spent practicing
just that routine when they were younger.
“Remember the one summer we went to the
field every night to practice?”
Aisha chuckled. “Yeah, what were we,
twelve? I remember being so bad and you
spending every day for three weeks helping me
with my ball handling, even after I had said I
wanted to quit at least a dozen times.”
The two friends smiled at each other.
“Well, it clearly turned out all right,” Riley
said to Aisha. “I told you, all you needed was
a little more practice, and now you’re about to
dominate in our senior season.”
“

about to dominate,” Aisha
corrected her.
Their conversation came to an end as the
second half got underway. Riley had never
been able to focus on much more than the
game when she was watching football—she got
swept up in the excitement on the field.
