“I don’t think so,” said Riley.
“Why is Chava kicking anyway?” Aisha
wondered out loud. “He’s a great quarterback,
but clearly when it comes to kicking, well . . .
he stinks.”
“I don’t know,” said Riley. “Colin Josephson
was a senior last year, so with Colin gone I
guess Chava is the best we’ve got now.”
“It could be a long season.”
The Rams set up for the next play.
They snapped the ball, but the Renegades’
star linebacker, Sean Coughlin, blitzed the
quarterback up the middle and met him a split
second after he took the snap. The quarterback
never knew what hit him and went crashing to
the turf. The ball flew from his hands and a
Renegades defender pounced on it. Riley and
Aisha jumped to their feet as Sean and the rest
of the Renegades players celebrated the fumble
recovery.
Sean’s play was just what the Renegades
needed to turn the game around. The crowd
watched eagerly as they took possession of
the ball and scored. By halftime the game was
