The Extra Point - page 6

The Renegades tried to fire back. Chava
threw a deep pass down the middle to wide
receiver Anthony Barber, and another in the flat
to running back Eddie Williams, which turned
into a thirty-yard run. But the Renegades just
couldn’t get any points on the board.
By the end of the first quarter, the Rams
were up 14–0. Finally, halfway through the
second quarter, the Renegades responded in a
brilliant play. It was fourth down on the Rams’
five yard line when Chava faked a handoff to
Eddie and went charging down the field. He
sprinted around the outside for a touchdown.
The crowd went nuts.
But the Renegades weren’t able to keep
up the momentum. Chava was unsuccessful
on the extra point attempt and once again
failed miserably on the kickoff. As he swung
his kicking leg toward the ball, he almost
whiffed—striking just the top part of the ball.
The football took a few bounces and traveled
only fifteen yards. A Rams player dove on top
of it.
“Did he do that on purpose?” asked Aisha.
