inside. In seconds, her voice came through a loudspeaker.
              “Please stay at least seventy-five feet away from the
            wildlife. Bison can be extremely dangerous.”

              Most of the people stopped walking and stood a safe
            distance from the grazing animals. But one man just kept

            going, holding up a camera as he went.
              “Sir, please return to a safe distance. You are too close,”

            Isabel’s voice called out through the loudspeaker.  The
            man took several more steps toward the bison.
              “You, sir, in the red jacket. If you don’t step back, I’ll

            have to ticket you.”
              The man turned and walked briskly to a car. He got in

            and sped away, passing between the ranger’s SUV and the
            boulder where Buck and the others still stood.
              “He probably would have listened better if he had seen

            them stampeding through here just a few minutes ago,”
            Toni said as Isabel joined them again.

              “People don’t seem to think bison can be dangerous,”
            Isabel said. “They look slow and clumsy, but as you saw,
            they can run incredibly fast. It doesn’t take much to stir

            them up, either. Their behavior can change instantly. By
