the way, did anyone see what spooked them?”
“No, we were watching them graze way upstream,”
Toni said, “and they just suddenly started running.”
“I knew they were in the meadow and were headed this
way,” Isabel continued. “I came to monitor them. We
keep tabs on the animals in the park as much as possible.
If they’re close to a place where people will be, a ranger
will make a presence and warn people to stay back like I
just did. But there are always those who don’t think the
rules apply to them.”
“I wasn’t trying to get close to them,” Buck said
defensively.
“I know you weren’t,” Isabel reassured him.
“I was filming them,” Shoop said. “Maybe we’ll be able
to see what set them off in the footage.”
Buck looked around. “Where’s your camera?”
“The Kolsons saw what happened. They offered to stay
with our equipment,” Shoop answered.
Buck glanced toward the bridge and saw the family
standing next to Shoop’s tripod. The camera was pointed
straight toward him.
